Result 1st Boat MA 2013

Congrats to Steve Turner on winning the 1st leg of our boat master angler series sponsored by Galway Bay Fishing With weather forecast’s giving fresh Westerlies we were prepared for a tough day at the office, thankfully the sea wasn’t too big and while the wind was up the swell sets were rather tame. Fishing was quick fire from the start with David Spokes rattling off a blast of coalies. Steve winkled out a red gurnard to add to his species score, there were a few pollack showing too. After a move to a sheltered channel we dropped anchor to fish over sand Conor Mountaine was first off the mark here with a couple of dogs. We then had a run of Huss with over a dozen coming to the boat in a short space of time. There were a couple of ray and several dogs to finish off a pleasant days fishing. This should’ve been leg 3 but with the chronic weather we had to postpone the first 2 legs until later in the year. Once again many thanks to our skipper Kevin MacGabhann for looking after us and finding fish on what could’ve been a tough day otherwise, the total species count finished at 7 they were: pollack, coalies, huss, red gurnards, dogs, thornback ray and launce. Result 2nd Shore MA 2013

Congrats to Danny Sweeney on winning Leg 2 of our shore master angler series. It’s Danny’s second win on the bounce and he secured it on the last cast with a counting Turbot.
The weather was not on our side yet again with gale-force SE winds making things difficult on the beach however water conditions were ok with no weed in water and a manageable tidal run.
Roll on the next leg and some settled weather, full result to follow – The Committee

Congrats to Danny Sweeney on winning the first leg of our shore master angler series… When the winds in the East the fish bite least and that certainly proved true. A biting easterly combined with a sudden drop in temp over the last few days, meant fish were thin on the ground on a beach where the winner is regularly in double figures… There was no denying Danny who managed to winkle out a couple of fish all the same. Result 9th Shore MA 2012

Congrats to Conor Mountaine on winning leg 9 of our shore master angler series, Conor got off to a good start with a double shot on his first cast and continued to add to that picking off fish consistantly with a a couple of treble shots thrown in just enough to keep clear of the chasing pack. Fishing was good overall with everyone recording a decent bag with a mix of Turbot, Flounder, Grey Gurnard, Poor Cod and Dogfish ~ The Committee

Congrats to Steve Turner on winning the 6th and final leg of our boat master angler series sponsored by Galway Bay Fishing With weather forecast’s giving fresh Westerlies it was up to our skipper to come up with the goods and again he delivered. Fishing was good from the start with plenty of different species coming to the boat. Steve was again picking off species after species and clocking up the points followed closely by Declan Horan who was chalking off a good few species himself and was just pipped into 2nd place on the day.

The overall winner of the inaugural Galway Buccaneers SAC Boat Master Angler series was the young man from Achill Danny Sweeney. Danny fished very well throughout the series winning 3 legs outright and his commitment and dedication was there for all to see he fished hard and was a most deserving winner so from all your fellow club members hearty congratulations on becoming the Galway Buccaneers SAC Boat Master Angler for 2012.

A big thank you has to go to our skipper Kevin MacGabhann and his crew for looking after us during the year there wasn’t a bad days fishing on any occasion, and in fairness Kevin is one of the hardest working skippers that you will find anywhere. He always has a plan of action for the day and isn’t afraid to burn some diesel to ensure “you’re on the fish” and on top of all that he sponsored our Master Angler Series for which we are all much obliged – The Committee

Result 8th Shore MA 2012

Congrats to John Peel on his second win in a row, John had a mix of Thornback Ray, Bullhuss, and Dogfish. So all eyes will be on John for our next leg to see if he can claim a hat-trick. Fishing was good with all anglers in the hunt for top place right up until the end there were a large number of Bullhuss on show which was great to see. Other species landed were: Thornback Ray, Bullhuss, Dogfish, Whiting and Pollack ~ The Committee
